Why does this version save the schema as ".sim1" an not ".simu"?

Why does this version save the schema as ".sim1" an not ".simu"?
Because it uses a different format.
If you open a circuit from an older version and save it with the sane "simu" extension, then you will not be able to open it again in older versions.
