principle of the new connectors

I fastly tried the new connectors socket and header, but didn't get it on the first try.  
Do they only work as connector for packages and not within a circuit?

I just tried the following (oversimplified) circuit, but the light won't turn on (or show overcurrent), with wire1 and wire2.

I thought, that without the wire1 and wire2 the light shall turn on when the pin headers are moved above the socket. But this doesn't seem to work, neither.

Yes, that is the idea.
But it looks like there is an error.
If you connect the lamp directly to ground and only use sockect connection for +5V it should work.

You are right - it works, when I use only one pair of connectors.
For more connectors it really looks like an error..
